The furthest possible origin of the word Kilim/Cilim can be found already in Cuneiform, the earliest known writing system, originally developed to write in Sumerian languages of southern Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq.  A writing system complex to decipher, as
- a sign ('word") can be used & read entirely different with different meanings in different languages,
- a sign can have different sounds depending on the context,
- one sound can be written in several signs as well.
